Happy New Year!
I love NYE, I love dressing up, I love champagne, and I love counting down to midnight and kissing (especially the kissing!) I used to fall into the binge now, get strict later diet pattern that consumes so many of the people around us. I let my superficial goals set me up for failure.
I would set goals that would fail before they began. I would make a resolution only to let it fizzle out quickly. I would go on a run on January 1st every year…even though I hate running (because that is what you are supposed to do) So I QUIT. Yup I quit the whole resolution thing a few years ago and it was an amazing decision, for me.
The past few years I have made intentions and backed it up with a promise
2013: Family – The year I married Ben and I promised myself to go with the flow and define what “family” was to us
2014: Love – I had promised to model my self love after the way my husband looked at me and appreciated every single part of me.
2015: Create – I left my “jobs” and created the life and business I wanted to have. I promised to stay focused, and keep creating through failures and success.
2016: Unstoppable – This year I am going to continue the life and business I love and become unstoppable in reaching who I want to be and what I want to do in this world.
The purpose of having an intention, or mantra, or theme, or word (whatever you wanna call it) paired with a promise was that there was not failure involved here. There was nothing I could do “wrong” and really there isn’t a way to do it “right” either. Each year there were ups and downs and twists and turns. And I wouldn’t want it any other way.
I had to figure it out and find what works for me personally. And so do you.
I love the atmosphere around New Years. I don’t mind hearing everyones resolutions. I don’t mind seeing the “New Year, New You” stuff flooding my news feed. I don’t always choose to take that route, but the energy around this time of year lights me up!
We are all surrounded by an energy of possibility, opportunity, goals, and moving forward. Together we vibrate at a higher frequency when we work towards goals that matter to us. There are many ways to do this whole New Years thing:
- Resolutions
- Page 1 of a 365
- Intentions
- Mantras
- Leaving 2015 in the dust
- Leveling up
- New Year New You
- New Year Same You
- Goals
- Plans
- Strategies
Whatever you choose. EMPOWER IT!
The only part about New Years that I CANNOT stand for is the goals and intentions that fade away around February or March. The sparkles get put away, the excitement fizzles out, and so do the resolutions. If this has been your story, take a step back and ask:
What is going to be different for you this time around?
What has been holding you back in the past?
What hasn’t worked?
Are you ready to commit and go ALL IN on what you really want?
Even if you do not know the “how” quite yet, are you willing to JUMP and build your wings on the way down. You probably know the saying “What would you do if you knew you could not fail?” I like it, but Brene Brown has introduced me to a new question:
“What is worth doing even if you fail?”
The secret sauce to life beyond the resolution: The bold, courageous, vulnerable move of declaring what you want and then taking ACTION to get there. This means there will be ups and downs, twists and turns, “Oh shits!’ and “HELL YEAHS!”
And when December 31st, 2016 rolls around you’ll look back and appreciate the entire journey and gear up to do it all again in 2017.
Are you ready?
