We often get in our own way. I know for a fact I do? Sometimes we come up with physical restriction, emotional blockages, or just general fear. All things that can hold us back…if we let them.

One way to overcome these roadblocks is to recognize them, another way to overcome them is to side step them.

It may take a little searching to figure out what is really keeping us from what we want most. Even if you haven’t figured it all out yet, you can side step them with action and move forward.

I repeat: You DO NOT have to have it all figured out to start taking steps to change. As the saying goes do not let perfect be the enemy of good. We get around whatever is in our way with action.

There is no “perfect” time for anything. The perfect time is when we take that first step.

Action is the ultimate way to get it ALL done, and then some. FIRE and then AIM. You can plan, set goals, aim all day and get no where. If you take the initiative to FIRE first, you can plan and aim all you want after.

Can you think of one way that you can FIRE right now? This does not have to be complicated, it can be and should be very simple. Just ONE single action that is going to get you closer. I want this one action to be so simple that you CANNOT fail at it.

This means that I don’t want you to cut anything cold turkey, or add a huge task to your everyday busy life. These things are not fail proof. By trying to change something too quickly you are setting yourself up for a really tough battle. The energy it takes to white knuckle your way through these major shifts can lead to fatigue and failure.

How to FAILproof your first action step:

  1. KISS- Keep it Simple Sweetheart
  2. Write it down- Keeping your action task in the front of mind will keep you on track
  3. Work for stickers! – Put a sticker/gold star on the calendar each day you took your 1 action step
  4. Start small – Ex. If your goal is to drink more water start by just adding 1 or 2 glasses a day and being conscious of your action step to drink more water
  5. Then set up routines- Once you’ve got that down, expand and try for more
    1. 1 glass in the AM while making your breakfast
    2. 1 glass on your 10 minute break, or after you drop the kids off at school
    3. 1 glass/bottle that is stationed at your desk (refill as much as possible)
    4. 1 bottle on your commute
    5. 1 glass while cooking dinner
    6. 1 glass while you watch tv/read/hang with family at night

Don’t sweat it if you didn’t fully complete your action for the day. Tomorrow is a new day a new opportunity.

You may not have figured out what is holding you back, but you’ll work around it anyway with the power of ACTION!

At this stage it doesn’t matter what is holding you back, because you’ve got action on your side. Get up and get something done!
