Short Notes about thinking outside the box and setting goals based on your true ultimate purpose.

Training goals do not have to be based on our physical body measurement results.  <—Wait say what?!?!?!

I am drawing a line in the sand here.  I do not believe that your goals have to be around your size, shape, measurements.  Can your goal be to achieve a certain measurement, body fat %, or size? Yes, of course it can.  My claim is that you do not have to set your goals that way.  Your training goals can be around spending more active time outside, increasing intensity can shortening your workouts and have more time at home with your family, adding a mind/body exercise routine to keep you less stressed and more focused throughout your day.  These are ALL valid goals and should be treated as such.  All you have to be able to measure is if it’s working within your life.  Does doing short/intense workouts get you home for dinner with your family? Did adding daily de-stress walks with your significant other add value to your day and your relationship? These are all ways of measuring success! It is okay to have a measurable goal that has nothing to do with size, shape or weight.

For example one of my goals was to add more recovery workouts into my weekly routine for sanity of mind and the health of my body.  I easily get caught up in my exercise world and do too much.  I want to try new exercises and work through two programs at once.  This often leads to overtraining and inefficient use of my time and energy.  I end up crashing, getting injured, or getting sick.  I have booked into my schedule Wednesdays are for Pilates and Fridays for Clubbell Yoga.  I also add a few yoga flows or foam rolling sessions into my nightly wind down routine 1 or 2 nights a week. I am not perfect every week, but I this has become part of my normal routine.  This helped me maintain my energy all week, I started sleeping better and feel less stressed most days! This is a HUGE success!

Do not feel like you have to get caught up in the “diet and exercise” whirlwind of pounds and inches. You do not have to pull out your tape measures, and scale to measure success. Think of training for purpose, no matter what that means to you.  Make it personal, make it meaningful.  That is what it takes to make a good goal.  Does it matter to you, right now? Is this going  to help you stay on track of a healthy life? Perfect! Than that is the goal you should work towards.

So what is your new goal?!
